International Training Workshop Geohazards Risk Assessments using Geospatial Tools and Techniques along the CPEC GIS & Space Application in Geosciences Lab (G-SAG), National Centre of GIS and Space Applications (NCGSA), and National Centre of Excellence in Geology, University of Peshawar, Pakistan (8-11 March, 2022) ND: BACKGROUND GIS and Space Applications in Geosciences (GSAG) Laboratory is established at the National Centre of Excellence in Geology, University of Peshawar, in affiliation with the National Center of GIS and Space Applications (NCGSA). This lab aims to promote and apply geo-information applications in geosciences mainly, geohazards assessment, geological applications, water and forests resources. GIS and remote sensing are becoming effective and efficient tools in the exploration, monitoring, and sustainable management of natural resources. Growing remote sensing data with enhanced capabilities and GIS techniques, provide opportunities for their utilization in various fields of geohazards including GIS/remote sensing based spatial analysis for natural hazards. Besides scientific research in the lab themes, one of the important components of the GSAG is the capacity building of professionals, scientists and researchers in GIS and Remote Sensing ➢ applications for geosciences. Under this component, the GSAG-L is organizing ➢ a comprehensive training workshop on “Geohazards and Risk Assessment using geospatial tools and techniques along the CPEC” with national and international partners. The resource persons are nationally and internationally renowned scientists and practitioners in the field of natural hazard assessment and mitigation. The training shall be focused on the tools and techniques for geohazard assessment, mainly landslides and earthquakes. The training shall assist to provide a platform to the relevant professionals and postgraduate students to grasp the theoretical background ➢ of geo-information data and analysis tools and their potential applications in ➢ geosciences.
