Senhores Membros da Assembleia e do Conselho da Universidade, Magnífico Reitor, Professor Doutor Wei Zhao, Caros convidados e professores, Caros alunos e famílias, Minhas senhoras e meus senhores, Muito bom dia! Nesta hora de grande emoção, quando estão prestes a despedir-vos da vossa alma mater e a abraçar, com esperança, o futuro, eu gostaria de desejar a todos os diplomados o maior sucesso pessoal e profissional. Permitam-me também prestar homenagem aos vossos pais e professores que vos deram grande apoio na vossa formação. Após a conclusão, com aproveitamento, dos cursos de pós-licenciatura, vão abandonar esta “torre de marfim” e procurar encontrar o vosso caminho de sucesso, numa sociedade com diversos desafios e incertezas. Por um lado, os estudos na Universidade equipam-vos com o conhecimento necessário para a vossa carreira profissional. Por outro lado, a vida pela vossa frente será uma maior escola onde há ainda muitas coisas para aprender. Estão agora num novo ponto de partida, com novas oportunidades e desafios. De facto, a partir deste momento, vão assumir mais responsabilidades sociais, ter de apoiar os pais, cuidar da família e, ao mesmo tempo, trabalhar pela realização dos vossos sonhos. Têm pela frente um caminho promissor, mas também caracterizado por diversas vicissitudes. De qualquer forma, estou convicto de que, com confiança e determinação, vão alcançar os maiores êxitos. Como membro da Associação dos Antigos Alunos da UM, aproveito o ensejo para vos convidar para integrarem a nossa Associação. Com uma existência de dezassete anos, a Associação tem membros que trabalham em diversos sectores, contribuindo para o bem-estar e prosperidade da nossa comunidade. Venham aprender com a experiência dos antigos alunos, pois vão ajudar-vos a enfrentar desafios da vida e a encontrar um caminho certo para o sucesso. Se se depararem com dificuldades e precisarem de consolação e apoio, já sabem que estamos sempre ao dispor. Caros formados,  Têm um longo caminho a percorrer, com infinitas possibilidades. Espero que saibam apreciar e aprender as diversas experiências da vida e que sejam pessoas felizes e de grande sucesso, tendo como orientação a divisa da UM: humanismo, honestidade, ética, erudição e sinceridade. No momento de partida para uma nova fase da vossa vida, levem convosco os melhores votos da Universidade. Por fim, desejo, uma vez mais, a todos os formados, um futuro brilhante, com muitos sucessos profissionais e pessoais e muitas felicidades. Time flies and the graduation season is back here again. Today, may we wish every one of the graduates here a promising future. May we also pay our respects to the parents and teachers for their show of care and devoted teaching. Your graduation is a statement bidding adieu to your university education. And from there you’re entering into a world that may not be always smooth sailing. You may flow adrift or you may have to go through thickets of confusion before you can find the meaning of your life. However, no matter what may befall you, the knowledge you have learnt in your graduate studies will give you wisdom with which you live your future life. You’ve grown in university, and you will mellow in society. You may have caught a glimpse of hues in the skies yonder while you were looking out of the classroom window, but you will be stepping into the world out there to admire a many-splendored rainbow. Graduation is a milestone beyond which there will lie as many opportunities and challenges. You will need to give back to your country, your community and not least your family. These will be your dreams as much as they are new moral obligations assumed upon yourselves, and they’re no small feat to you. The long road stretching ahead of you will take you where you want to go, but you may not be going along your way without a few bumps here and a few jerks there. But anyway, dear student fellows, stay committed to your goals and aim for something high and believe you me, you will never regret having spent your youth that way. As a member of the UM Alumni Association, I warmly welcome you to join us. Now 17 years of age, our Association has alumni from all walks of life who have contributed a great deal to the Macao society. You may encounter some rough sails in your life voyage in future, but don’t worry. The Association can be a shelter for you. Our members there will share with you their success stories and their wisdom. That will save you from repeating the mistakes. Very soon, you will be blazing your own trail. It may seem an endless journey, and in the course of it, it can be venturesome and you may feel lonely. But don’t ever beat the hasty retreat. Stay  Hungry Stay Foolish, as the famous saying goes. Like everything else, joie de vivre doesn’t last long and you may be experiencing graduation tristesse. However, the world moves on; your learning continues. With love and hope from your Alma Mater and families, may each one of you set off for a new journey with the moral compass of the University motto as your navigation guide and happy and successful life will be waiting for you yonder.
