8th International Workshop on Tropical Marine Environmental Changes “Tropical Indo-Pacific Ocean: From climate change to ocean environment response” (Nov. 6th -8th 2015, Guangzhou, China) First Round Announcement Background As a global ocean heat reservoir, Indo-Pacific warm pool is the key region for vigorous exchange of substance and energy in the world oceans and its large thermal inertia has an important influence for climate change in East Asia. Indo-pacific warm pool is not only the important source region for the many climate variabilities, including the East Asian Monsoon abnormal activity and the kinetics of low frequency wave train, but also the bridge for East Asia Monsoon activity. The later is affected by Tropical Indian Ocean and the Eastern Pacific, and it is directly linked to the drought, flood and typhoon disasters in China and regulates the global climate change. Since 2001, a series of international conferences on the Tropical Marine Environmental changes began and continued every other year, advocated by Academician Yeli YUAN and Prof. Ping SHI. To date, the conference has been successfully held seven times and is well-known in the scientific community. The conference has provided a communication platform for the scientists all over the world who are engaged in the study of the equatorial Pacific and Indian Oceans, South China Sea and adjacent tropical marine environment. On Nov. 6th -8th 2015, the 8th International Workshop on the Tropical Marine Environmental Changes will be held in Guangzhou, China. A series of outstanding ocean and climate scientists will be invited to attend our meeting to discuss some hot issues on Indo-Pacific Ocean variability and its environmental effects. Meantime, hosted by State Key Laboratory of Tropical Oceanography (LTO), a two week workshop “Indian Ocean: Monsoon, Circulation, and Climate” will be held after this international conference on Nov. 9th -20th, 2015. Profs. GuoXiong WU, Ming FENG, and Rui Xin HUANG are the keynote lectures of the workshop. We look forward to seeing our colleagues in Guangzhou!
