2023 JLPW Visiting Internship Programme Term: 04 September 2023 – 30 November 2023 Positions available: up to 10 interns About the programme: The JLPW Visiting Internship Programme has been in existence since 2008. To date, we have trained approximately 180 students that participated in this programme and the JLPW Online Internship Programme. Visiting interns are given the opportunity to attend lectures given by lawyers of the firm; attend meetings with clients; visit legal institutions; and review case files. Visiting interns are also given assignments such as translation of legal and commercial contracts and due diligence. At the conclusion of the programme, visiting interns are required to present a summary of their experience during their internship and the changes in their views of Malaysia compared to their views before the visiting internship. The programme seeks to encourage visiting students to learn and understand Malaysian law and the legal practice in Malaysia. Our founding partners were part of the regional crossborder team of a leading law firm in South East Asia with extensive experience in cross-border investments, joint ventures, mergers and acquisitions and capital markets. From 2001 to 2011, we were affiliated with an international law firm operating across many jurisdictions within Asia Pacific region. From an initial team of 3 founder partners in 1999, we have prospered and grown to 38 lawyers comprising 10 partners and 28 associates today. As a group, we have 110 fee earners. Cost of Living in Malaysia: According to the Department of Statistics Malaysia, cost of living relatively varies between states of Malaysia due to differences in commodity prices, household income levels and the ability of households to cope with rising prices. In 2019, a single household spent on average RM5,312.00 per month as compared to a household with four members and above (RM7,824.00) in Kuala Lumpur. Basic necessities usually dominate household expenditure. It is advised that the participating interns provide the proper documents to us as soon as possible as the visa application process may take up to 3 months. Documents required (all copies of documents must be in colour): 1. Recent passport photo (Photo sized 3.5 x 5.0 cm, shoulder level and above, excess space between the chin with the lower end of sized photographs at least 1 cm, excess space between the head with the upper end of sized photographs at least 1 cm, light blue background. Passport photo should be facing straight). 2. Copy of passport (full booklet with cover) - passport MUST have a minimum 12 months validity period. 3. Copy of highest educational certificates* 4. Such other documents as may be required by the Immigration Department of Malaysia. * If the applicant is not in Malaysia, the academic certificate(s) MUST be translated to English and Certified True Copy by the Malaysian Embassy / High Commission / Consulate in their respective country.
