The main concept I’ve chosen as a basis of this research is the concept of reflection, which has four subconcepts: (1) soul/spirit and religion; (2) social identity; (3) empire and reflection; and (4) beauty. Chinese New Confucians have made considerable contribution to building an alternative ontology of“culture”. In their works, Western philosophical vocabulary serves as a tool of inscribing another layer of comments on the classical Confucian legacy. The concept“wenhua” has therefore regained its original meaning of ‘‘ornamentalizing”the existing cross-cultural experience with the classical patterns.
