Senhor Presidente do Conselho da Universidade, Doutor Tse Chi Wai, Magnífico Reitor Professor Doutor Wei Zhao, Distintos Convidados, Estimados Professores, Caros Colegas, Senhoras e Senhores, O Professor Doutor Gu Mingyuan é um docente com longo tempo de serviço na Beijing Normal University, um notável educador na China contemporânea e um investigador em educação de renome internacional. É igualmente um académico erudito e um autor prolífico, com dezenas de monografias frequentemente citadas e mais de trezentos trabalhos académicos publicados em chinês e inglês. Foi muitas vezes convidado por universidades mundialmente conhecidas para efectuar visitas académicas, conferências ou projectos de investigação. O Professor Doutor Gu mostra-se entusiasmado e dedicado à causa da educação e, tendo realizados estudos profundos, formou uma perspectiva muito profunda acerca da prática educacional. Defende que, para nutrir uma cultura favorável no campus, a universidade deverá reverter para a sua natureza e valor original, ou seja, a missão de perseguir o verdadeiro, o bom e o bonito; para orientar os estudantes, o professor deverá possuir não só sabedoria como também carisma pessoal; e para melhorar as relações entre o docente e discente, o professor deverá empenhar-se nos estudos da estratégia e metodologia pedagógica e esforçar-se pelo sucesso e felicidade dos seus alunos. A notável perícia do Professor Doutor Gu na educação, e os seus abundantes frutos da investigação, rica experiência administrativa e rede educacional bem estabelecida, serão um grande incentivo para o desenvolvimento da Universidade de Macau e da RAEM nas áreas respectivas, e também desempenharão um papel fundamental para ligar a UM com outras universidade de prestígio no mundo e promover cooperação e intercâmbio com as mesmas. Constitui uma grande honra para a Universidade e para todos nós presentes poder testemunhar este momento precioso e histórico. 12 Honourable Chief Executive of the Macao SAR and Chancellor of the University of Macau, Mr. Ho Hau Wah, Honourable Chairman of the University Council, Dr. Tse Chi Wai, Honourable Rector, Prof. Wei Zhao, Distinguished Guests, Dear Teachers and Students, Ladies and Gentlemen: Prof. Gu Mingyuan is a long-serving faculty member of Beijing Normal University, an outstanding educator in contemporary China and a world-renowned educational researcher. Prof. Gu is also a profound and erudite scholar as well as a prolific author, with scores of widely cited monographs as well as more than three hundred academic papers published in Chinese and English. He has been often invited to many world-class universities, both at home and abroad, for academic visits, lecture tours and academic researches. Prof. Gu is highly enthusiastic about and dedicated to the cause of education and has developed particular and profound insights into educational practice. He holds that in order to cultivate a favorable campus culture, the university should revert to its original nature and value of pursuing the true, the good and the beautiful; in order to guide the students, the teacher should be well equipped with both an excellent knowledge base and personal charisma; and in order to improve the teacher-student relationship, the teacher should devote himself to the study of teaching strategies and methods and strive for the success and happiness of their students. There is no doubt that Prof. Gu’s great expertise in education, fruitful research outputs, rich administrative experience and well-established educational network will not only be a significant impetus for the development of the University of Macau and other related fields in Macao, but also play a crucial role in connecting the University of Macau and other world-renowned universities and promoting co-operation and exchanges. Prof. Gu Mingyuan, a well-known figure in academic circles and greatly respected in the educational sector worldwide, will be closely associated with the University of Macau henceforth. This is a great honour for the University, and for all of us present here today witnessing this precious and historic moment! 13
