Note to Staff at the Participating Universities Young Leaders Program: Environment and Sustainable Development 20 January –02 February 2019, Sydney, Australia Program objective The Environment and Sustainable Development Program is a customised non-award academic program with a focus on some of the most critical issues in environment and sustainable development in Australia and the world. It is delivered as a combination of lectures, seminars, group work and educational trips with a wideranging perspective. Students will also be able to enhance their intercultural awareness and develop leadership skills throughout the program. Program duration 20 January to 02 February 2019     20 January 21 January 01 February 02 February arrive in Sydney program starts program ends depart Sydney Participants University students from any academic area, at any level of study with a strong interest in environment and sustainability are welcome to apply. The program will be taught entirely in English, therefore an adequate English language ability including listening and speaking is essential. Throughout the program, students will be expected to complete online tests and quizzes as part of academic assessment. Participants will have the opportunity to study alongside students from leading Chinese universities as well as having the opportunity to meet and interact with the University of Sydney Student Ambassadors. Young Leaders Program: Environment and Sustainable Development 2019 1 Program fee for students The program fee of $3,680 in Australia dollars per student covers: • • • • • • tuition fees field trips 13 nights shared accommodation (room only) from 20 January to 02 February 2019 airport group pick-up on 20 January* and transfer on 02 February* *Students who are not able to meet the group pick up and transfer time will need to make their own travel arrangements to the accommodation. Travel instructions will be provided. Opal card for public transport in Sydney Certificate of Attendance and Program Assessment Report Students are responsible for any other costs not included in the program fee. We highly recommend that all students arrange international travel insurance prior to departure. Application process Applications should be made to each participant’s home university within the following timeframe. 02 November 2018 07 November Applications close Participant information sent to the University of Sydney, including student name, gender, date of birth, school/department, year of study, mobile phone number, email address and emergency contact details Please fill in the above information in the attached Student Information Form. 14 November Group visa application support letter sent to participating university 20 November Full payment received by The University of Sydney Young Leaders Program: Environment and Sustainable Development 2019 2 Visa Students should apply for an Australian Visitor Visa (subclass 600). For details, please visit the Australian Government Department of Home Affairs website or consult your nearest Australian Visa Application Centre (AVAC) in China. Payment Student may use The University of Sydney’s online payment system to pay. Payment link will be sent via email once application is accepted. Visa or MasterCard can be used for online payment. All payments will be made in Australian Dollars. Refund In the event of individual cancellation, the participating university must notify the University of Sydney in writing. Refunds – reasons other than visa refusal $1,472 per participant, being 40% of the total fee of $3,680, is non-refundable. • • • For any individual cancellation before 30 November 2018 (inclusive) no cancellation fee will apply. For any individual cancellation between 01 December 2018 and 01 January 2019 (inclusive), there will be a cancellation charge of $200 per participant in addition to the $1,472 per participant (non-refundable deposit of the total program fee) For any individual cancellation on or after 01 January 2019, there will be no refund. Refunds - visa refusal For any individual cancellation due to visa refusal, a refund will be made after a deduction of an administrative fee at $200 per participant. In addition, any fees for program activities, accommodation or logistics which have been pre-paid will also be deducted. A copy of the visa refusal letter issued by the Australian Embassy and/or Consulate General must be sent with the written notification in order to process refund. Any refund will be made to the same person or body from whom the payment was received. Associated bank transfer costs may also apply.
